[Story]: MITCHELL
MITCHELL
The evening was cool, the sun had peacefully gone down, with the birds chirping as usual. Mitchell, seemed to be at peace with the whole world except she wasn’t with herself, as she could not stop the face of Alvin from appearing in her head.
Mitchell, was only twenty-four years of age. She was beautiful, tall and slim,
skin was brown in colour, much like the mellow brown light that bathed the forest, her dazzling smile revealed the bronze glow of her cheeks, her eyes like silver lightening, sharp and quick witted, her hair as kinky and curly like a typical African lady.
For some odd reasons, she did not know why Alvin’s face refused to stay out of
head. Alvin, was twenty- six years old. He was tall, handsome and had a sandy complexion, smooth and tawny, his hair was black with lots of waves arranged in a beautiful pattern, his smile was dazzling revealing his perfect dentition but his eyes were like that of a lethal male.
Alvin and Mitchell had been friends since their University
days. Where she graduated a year before him because she studied psychology was a four year course, leaving him behind who was studying pharmacy. After her graduation from the University, they were still in touch with each other. Many times, he would call her on the phone to tell her; how much he missed her and how his academics were becoming stressful. Mitchell, who at that time was in Kano state serving the nation as a Corp member, also did tell him, how she normally had to wake up early for their usual stressful morning parade. For sure, he did miss her.. Most times, he would say, “ I really miss your dazzling smile” with his mouth curling into a charming smile…and her response would be, “ I miss seeing your perfect dentition”. Alvin, could not hide his feeling of love for her any longer and it was obvious, she too loved him. Their love story was as, perfect as it could be. Everything seemed to be going on well with them, Until the calls stopped. Mitchell, wondered what had happened to him, she tried calling him a million times but it never went through. Days rolled into months and months into a year.
Mitchell, had successfully completed her NYSC programme. She had
moved back to Lagos. For some funny reasons, she had thought of settling down in Kano State but the nation’s security issue discouraged her. Life seemed so beautiful for Mitchell, she got a job as a banker in one of the “ big” banks in the country.
Everything, about her life appeared to be good but the
thought of Alvin's about troubled her. Mitchell, quite understood her job as a banker, thanks to the numerous workshops organized by the bank.
The fateful day had come, just like every other
morning Mitchell, got ready for work, she prayed as usual for God’s blessings, quickly ate some food she had prepared the previous day and then set off for work. That Tuesday morning, the traffic was terrible, something Mitchell hated. She loved Lagos but the traffic was what she could not stand. While she waited for the traffic warden to let their bus go over to the other side, she turned her neck sightly to look through the window only to see Alvin, seated in a brown Toyota Camry with a lady by his side....”Alvin!” she screamed.
